Dr. Katja Aegerter is a psychologist, researcher, and "serial" expatriate with nearly 20 years of international mobility experience. As part of her PhD in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Basel, Switzerland, she researched the experiences and well-being of expatriate families, with a particular focus on the stressors affecting globally mobile parents, the family system, and children. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to a better understanding of family life in international contexts.
Katja has extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is fascinated by the systemic approaches. Having lived in almost ten countries on three continents herself and raised two Third Culture Kids who have grown up across four countries, she combines professional expertise with lived experience. For several years, she has delivered workshops and trainings for parents of Third Culture Kids on behalf of several European Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
Today, Katja runs her own psychology practice, where she supports individuals navigating life transitions, identity changes, international mobility, and the challenges of balancing personal well-being with family and professional responsibilities.
